‘Glasto Vibes Were High’ – Our Guests Make Our Days
On Instagram @wanderingmamastreets pointed out that “Glasto vibes were high at Mendip Basecamp last weekend with its flag-lined tracks & illuminated woodland walk”.
To be compared to the legendary Glastonbury Festival was a pretty great compliment to our team! But what pleased us more was when @wanderingmamastreets complimented the super clean, well-stocked and zero-queue toilets and showers that were a world away from normal music festivals, making the site a “breeze” for family campers.
Whilst Somerset is mainly known for that infamous festival, there are plenty of other local events to be visited – many of them family-friendly and often free.
Free Local Festivals and Events
The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta
Bristol’s legendary ballooning event takes place every summer at Ashton Court in south Bristol. Always a great day out for the family, with magical views of the unique Bristol skyline. Visit their website to find out when the next Fiesta takes place.
Eat Festivals
These food & drink festivals support local West Country producers for all you foodies. Events take place throughout the year in Weston-super-Mare, Clevedon, Burnham-on-Sea, Portishead and Bedminster where you can buy delicious produce and enjoy free entertainment with the family.

Culture Weston and Visit WsM regularly organise local events, including some free entry events. Live music performances, art installations and more come up throughout the year, so keep an eye on their calendar so you don’t miss out!

Free Entertainment at Award-Winning Basecamp
Family-friendly with festival vibes is what Mendip Basecamp is all about! Live music takes place every weekend and we love seeing campers dancing and supporting local artists. Plus, themed weekends and free activities like Circus Skills bring the family together, and the giant sandpit and boulder garden create moments for imagination and magic.
Mendip Family Festival (Formerly the Harvest Home Festival)
We’ve teamed up with the local Rotary Club to host family-friendly charity festivals at the end of the summer. Follow us on Instagram so you can be the first to get tickets!
During the Mendip Family Festival, guests have exclusive use of Basecamp facilities and can look forward to themed evenings, open-air cinema, live music, bar and food, plus free activities that can include the Climbing Tower, ArcheryActive, Frisbee Golf, Nerf Battles and more.
In past years more than half of the tickets sold out just hours after they went on sale, so keep an eye on the website or Instagram to find out when tickets go on sale.
