Mendip Basecamp

Our Story

Basecamp is an off-grid family campsite in the heart of the beautiful Mendip Hills near Bristol and Weston-super-Mare just five minutes from the M5. Surrounded by ancient woodland you can pitch where you like, park by your tent and enjoy a camp fire. We have no check out time so you can leave when you are ready.

We may be off-grid but we have hot showers, clean flushing toilets, a camp shop, washing up areas, a giant sandpit, toddler play zone, USB charging and a communal ice-block freezer.

Our licensed country lodge and beer garden serves the best local ciders and ales plus cooked breakfasts, craft pizzas, Pieminister Pies, loaded fries and basket meals. Check out our schedule of free outdoor live music and take advantage of our 250 acre activity centre on site and make your stay a real family adventure camp!

Love this site! Have stayed a few times and don't think I've been anywhere like it. A really unique camping experience with a chilled vibe. The site is a lovely balance of natural, wild beauty but with a well structured set up for easy-to-book activities and basic convenience. The staff are so friendly and professional. The kids loved; bushcraft, toboganning, frisbee golf, the shop and playing in the massive woodland. Highly recommend!

WHAT A WEEKEND at Mendip Basecamp. Massive shout out to Ollie- our rock climbing instructor on Friday. Canoeing on Saturday for our tribe- Joe lead an awesome session . His inspiring, fun energy and knowledge was a perfect pitch for all ages. We loved meeting so many of the staff and their smiley faces added a great buzz around camp. Our bunkhouse tents worked so well for the 5 off us . Loads of space . Mendip, we will be back!

It is frankly the best campsite I have ever been to, and we will probably go back every single year. The facilities are outstanding. The campsite itself is well placed on the top of a view. One side has views and the other is next to the woodland walks. The basecamp itself has a marquee with a small shop that sells essentials of food and camping. There are comfy sofas, phone charging facilities, a small kids play area and other activities. The best part of this site for kids, is the variety of activities on site. There is also a 'pub' on site that does a range of reasonably priced food. There are lots of walks straight from the campsite, and overall the place has a great community feel. It is absolutely worth a visit.

“Wow, this is an amazing, family friendly place. Spent a very enjoyable weekend. Campsite is basic but has everything you need and all kept in very good order. No pressure to do any of the activities, but why wouldn't you, they are all run very well and good value.”

This place is just amazing. We had a fantastic stay, one of the best camping breaks we’ve ever had. The campsite is immaculately clean and the staff are amazing. Being able to have a fire pit was great - there’s nothing like watching the sunset whilst the kids roast marshmallows! The activities were all fabulous, super instruction and lots of fun. The bar and food were great. It’s hard to believe that this place hasn’t always been open to families. Congratulations to all of the staff team for creating something so amazing from such a difficult situation. You have made our summer!

Can not recommend this place enough. Friendly staff, quality atmosphere, awesome place to recharge the batteries! From beginning to end of our 3 day adventure our children have not stopped smiling! This place has it all. Very clean and well thought out camping area! Tobogganing and having a few beers at Turners Tavern were the highlights! Well done to all the team @mendip. You guys are doing a cracking job! We will be returning!!!

Just spent an amazing few days at Mendip basecamp. The activities were brilliant and the instructors all experienced, friendly and great with all ages. The facilities were spotless and regularly checked. The shop, bar and food was all reasonably priced unlike other sites I have been too and everything is overpriced. We are already planning a return trip next summer if they re-open to the public. Well done to every member of the team at Mendip Basecamp.

Changed our plans for Wales to go just 25miles down the road and absolutely thrilled we did! Simple, unplugged Somerset bliss. Tobogganing was hilarious and very highly recommended. We also tried our hands at rock climbing. Leonie was an amazing instructor. The Lodge is comforting and friendly and the pop up shop is just the job. The whole team are so friendly - Can’t wait to come back (hopefully!).

Our family have just returned from five fabulous days at Mendip Basecamp. Highly recommend the campsite and all it’s activities to others. Beautiful site, with incredibly helpful staff, great activities with real family feel. Campsite looks amazing at night too, with everyone’s fire pits and fairy lights. We will return....

We've just had a wonderful Bank Holiday weekend as a family. Our girls loved it and we thought the site itself was absolutely fab. We love the fact we didn't have to go off site for food with our wee ones once we've had enough of cooking on the camp cooker, the pizzas and chips from the Lodge were such a welcomed break. We would highly recommend and would love to come back.

Carl S:

we had a 2 night stay here for camping, with children (6,14,15) to keep occupied this place nailed it. we really loved our stay here. 5 STARS
